Q: Are all of you stay-at-home moms?
A: No. We are a diverse group of mothers with varied employment status. Some of us are in the paid workforce full time, others part-time, while others are currently at home full time with their children.
Q: How much does it cost to join your group?
A: Membership dues are currently $45 a year (less than $4 a month). Our local chapter keeps a portion of the dues (~1/3) and the remaining portion is used to support the national nonprofit organization of Mothers & More (national website, email loops, quarterly newsletter, administrative costs, etc.) Limited scholarship funds are available to help if the dues present a hardship for you. Please speak to a co-leader if you are interested in pursuing a scholarship.
Q: I'm interested in the group, but I'm not ready to join yet. What can I attend?
A: You are welcome to be our guest twice at any "mom's only" activity in public. This includes meetings, book club, or mom's night out. Activities with children are restricted to members for liability reasons.
Q: I don't see any specific dates or times for activities. How do you communicate with the group?
A: We have a monthly newsletter in which we publish specific information regarding the activities that are scheduled for the chapter that month. We distribute most copies of the newsletter via email, but we can send you a hard copy if you prefer. In addition, we have a Yahoo! email loop for our membership. Reminders for activities, information exchange among members, etc. are emailed via this loop.
Q: Why are your playgroups not divided by age?
A: We've taken the multi-age approach to playgroups for a couple of reasons. It allows mothers with more than one child to comfortably attend a playgroup and it also allows mothers with younger children to gain insight from more seasoned moms.
Q: My schedule only allows me to attend a subset of your activities. Is it worth joining?
A: Absolutely! Most of our members don’t make it to every activity. Participation by individual members varies widely over the year depending on what is going on in their personal lives. We even have a couple of members that rarely come to any group activity, but enjoy participating in the group at the National level and/or enjoy the email loop. We welcome and encourage you to pick and choose activities to meet your needs!
Q: Can I bring my children to the evening meetings?
A: Evening activities are typically mom-only activities, although infants under 6 months occasionally attend. We love our children dearly, but many of our members highly value a rare bit of time for themselves without children, so we try to respect that.
Q: How do I join?
A: There are two easy steps to join our local chapter of Mothers & More.
1. Fill out the simple membership form and pay by check or credit card. Please remember to indicate that you are joining Chapter #25 on the form.
